Welcome Home: Living Room

Reading Time
One of my favorite things that I see on other blogs are glimpses into bloggers' homes. It's so much fun to see how other people decorate and how they live, day in and day out. Now that things are starting to settle down here in the farmhouse after the hoopla and general chaos of moving, I have big plans to start sharing little glimpses of home.

This photo is a glimpse into our living room in the morning, several months ago. This space happens to be my favorite place in our entire house and it's the perfect room to cuddle up in with a blanket and a book during the kids' naptime. It is also conveniently located next to the stairs so I have a clear line of sight on whomever is sneaking out of their beds when they should be tucked away in dreamland.

When we first moved into this house, we knew that we would need more furniture since the living space is divided differently than our previous home. That yellow couch was our big splurge upon moving in, a gift that we gave ourselves to say, Congratulations! You survived moving with two children under the age of four! Now go take a nap! As someone who has napped on that particular couch since moving, I can safely say that it was an excellent way to congratulate ourselves.

Most of the other items in our living room are either DIY projects or Craigslist finds. We used vintage metal milk crates as bookshelves, purchased a very old lamp secondhand, and spray-painted bowls from Ikea to use as planters. All that said, my very favorite living room DIY is the hope chest that my parents built for us as a wedding gift. Right now, it sits next to the sofa and doubles as a seating area since it's not only gorgeous, but it's also built to be near indestructible. In the coming weeks as I share more photos of our house, I will grab a photo of that particular corner to share it!

I love the living space in this house and with the holidays approaching, I'm so grateful that we're settled into our home. I can hardly stop dreaming about decking the halls and finding the perfect Christmas tree to add to our living room in just a few short weeks!
