While You Were Sleeping

While You Were Sleeping
It's been too long since I snapped pictures while the wee ones were sleeping so after a napless day, I snuck up our creaky stairs with the camera and tripod to capture the peaceful silence of sleep. Nathaniel sleeps like a log and it was almost tempting to laugh as he lay there, completely oblivious to a mother who was moving his nightstand around and setting the camera lens to search for any trace of light in the dim room. Little boys who can't be bothered to take a break for nap time certainly make for some quality sleepers.

Unfortunately, the same truth doesn't quite apply to little girls... at least, girls in this household. After taking a few pictures of Nathaniel, I opened Evelyn's bedroom door and immediately saw her head pop up. She rubbed her sleepy eyes, took a good look at the camera and immediately gave me a giggle and a huge smile as though she were pleased as punch to be awoken in the dead of night for a photo-op. In the dark of her bedroom, we skipped the pictures and said a quiet goodnight with promises of playtime to come in the morning, but I don't think I'll forget seeing her gleeful face smiling at me when I peeked through her door that night.
