Bits of Country

Cornfield
Cornfield
It's that time of year again, the time when the corn is brought in, the fields are mowed down, and when a crisp chill begins to permeate the air. Living in the city, it's easy to feel as though we only experience the side of pumpkin spice lattes instead of appreciating the outdoors and the changes that take place during autumn.

Fortunately, whenever we drive to school in the mornings, we have to pass through rural farmland and this girl who grew up out in the country gets a little taste of the outdoors. In the car as the sun is coming up, the kids and I drive by a farm with llamas, and the afternoons are always accompanied by requests to go home a certain route so we can pass by several farms that raise cows. It's true that it's just a little bit of country here in the city, but it's perfect for our family.

So as we watch the seasons turn and those morning commutes to school turn into adventures in seeing snowcapped fields, it'll be just another sweet memory for us. Bits and pieces of the country, spotting cows from the backseat, and enjoying the simple things in life... even when they smell like manure.
