I came across this recipe a few weeks ago and it looked so tantalizing that I just couldn't resist giving it a go. It was simple enough since we had most of the ingredients on-hand anyway, so when Nathaniel begged to make cookies one afternoon, I whipped out this recipe and enjoyed the eager little hands of my helper spinning the mixing bowl along with me.

As cookies go, this one is a keeper simply for the plain ol' ease of tossing together the ingredients and enjoying the immediate gratification of brownie-like cookies warm out of the oven. And judging from the way that my wee ones have been eyeing up the cookie bowl lately, they agree too!

Swedish Angel Crisps

Ingredients: 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup shortening, 1/2 cup butter, 1/3 cup cocoa powder, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 2 cups all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon cream of tartar, granulated sugar (for decoration).

Directions: Preheat oven to 375F. Cream together the shortening, sugar, butter. Combine with vanilla extract and egg. Mix together the flour, baking soda, cocoa, and cream of tartar, then combine dry mixture with sugar mix. Form small balls and place on cookie sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
