Jonathan: Nathaniel, it's bed time. Please put away your toys.

Nathaniel: [Tantrum voice] NO. No! No! No! Aaaahhhhhhhh!

Jonathan: Nathaniel, you need to obey. Please put your toys in the bin.

Nathaniel: Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh.

Jonathan: Nathaniel-

Nathaniel: HUG! HUG! HUG!

Jonathan: Do you want a hug? Come here. You can have a hug.

Nathaniel: NO.

Jonathan: You don't want a hug? Okay.

Nathaniel: No.

Nathaniel: ...

Nathaniel: HUG! HUG! HUG!

  1. lol! I go through this with my James a lot lately. He'll tell me doesn't want something, say a cookie, so I'll give it to someone else, and then he has a mini-meltdown (with tears and everything)! He's a bit older than Nathaniel, so I'm hoping he'll figure out quickly to "let your yes be yes, and your no be no."
