Ding Ding, Let Round 2 Begin!

Remember the conclusion of Round 1 of teething? I think we left off somewhere huddled in the corner, rocking back and forth while holding Nathaniel's blankie. Round 1 was about as pleasant as having wooden splinters shoved under our fingernails, but when it finally came to an end with the emergence of those pearly white bottom teeth, my sweet, happy baby returned.

The hubs and I have enjoyed the reprieve greatly, especially when it came to our time together as a family of three. As long as the baby was fed, changed, and entertained, he was happy, which led to tickles, peek-a-boo, and quality time spent on the rocking horse. But in the back of my mind, I knew that it was only a matter of time until more teeth started coming through and I braced myself like only a mama can, armed with enough Orajel and squishy toys to soothe a small army of babies.

When I took Nathaniel to his six-month pediatrician appointment, the doctor gleefully announced that my son's top teeth were coming in. I was all OH, MORE TEETH? SURE, SURE. All the while thinking to myself that the doctor was losing his marbles since the top teeth were nowhere to be seen.

Last night as the hubs and I were playing with Nathaniel on the floor, my baby opened his mouth for a belly laugh and I caught a glimpse of Doctor Doom's prediction. The first top tooth. While it hasn't made its way completely through the gum yet, it's right beneath the surface. And just looking at it made my nipples ache, anticipating how excruciating nursing is about to become.

The fussing has started; the drooling never stopped. Round 2 has begun. Someone hand me the blankie.

  1. Garrett wasn't too bad for round 1, but round 2 is kicking our buts!! I think that's why he was throwing up yesterday. I think I took the throwing up worse than he did!
