A Lactating Mother's Thoughts on Milk

Ever since the Got Milk campaign raged through the nation, milk has been on the minds of the American public and in the bellies of its children.

I'm not one of those people who doesn't like milk. Quite to the contrary, I enjoy a cold glass of skim milk usually once a day.

But the fact that I'm lactating has changed my perspective on milk.

I was enjoying a chilled glass of milk the other day when my thoughts suddenly went to its origin. Farms. Cows. Udders.

And suddenly I wasn't thirsty anymore. Because even though I'm lactating, the idea of drinking something that squirted out of an udder just wasn't appealing in the slightest.

Maybe it's because I regularly use a breast pump. Or maybe it's because I smell fresh milk mixed with spit-up on a daily basis. Whatever it is, I think I'll be sticking to water for a few days.

  1. I hate milk always have..But a good friend of mine said that we are the only living being that drinks something that a animal produces for themselves. So I thought it is gross as well. but hey there are people that think that breastmilk is gross so go figure..

  3. Hmmm. Interesting. Could this be an excuse I've been looking for to drink diet pepsi 24/7?
