Day Five: 650 Reasons

There are roughly 650 muscles in the human body. This gives me 650 valid reasons to stand in front of my television, telling Jillian Michaels and her 30 Day Shred how much I hate her as I sweat and grunt along with her workout. Day five of the adventures of the stay at home mom marks the beginning of my effort to lose the baby weight that is so intent on reshaping my hips and thighs.

To my credit, I braved the scale this morning, something I have not had the courage to face since I gave birth and I was thrilled to find that I have lost 30 pounds since Nathaniel made his grand entrance! This brings me within twenty pounds of my goal, the weight I was at when Jonathan and I got married last year. While 20 pounds is a lot of weight to lose, it seems very manageable to me. In order to hold myself accountable, I will be posting once a week about my progress; my goal is to lose the weight and shape up before my brother-in-law's wedding this coming spring. Let the adventure begin...

For those of you who are curious about last night, taking Nathaniel out to dinner with Jonathan and I could not have gone more smoothly. We went to Olive Garden to celebrate my birthday and Nathaniel slept in his carseat for the entire meal; I didn't need the bottle I brought as a backup plan. The meal was delicious and it was wonderful to be able to go out as a family!

When we arrived home, Jonathan gave Nathaniel his bottle, which he took with no complaint. Jonathan and I have decided we will be giving him a bottle once or twice a day now so that Nathaniel can get used to eating from a bottle as well as nursing. The only challenge thus far is finding a convenient time in the afternoon to pump milk for the bottle, as we are trying to avoid formula unless absolutely necessary. So far, so good!

Now I'm off to tie the Moby wrap so I can hold my little boy while I attempt to fold three loads of laundry...

  1. Nice work, Alyssa! What a wonderful family! I'm moving back to Duluth soon, so I'll have to come down to visit!

  2. I love how our little boys were born on the same day. I can identify with a lot of your blog posts - it makes me laugh!
