28 Weeks and Difficult News

Today marks 28 weeks of pregnancy for our family. Jonathan and I went to our doctor's appointment today and got some surprising news.

Normally, our doctor listens to Baby G's heartbeat for a moment, tells us his heart rate, and then we move on with the appointment. Today as our doctor was listening to the baby's heart, we realized that something was wrong; she listened for several moments, explained that she was going to put her hand on my belly to feel the baby, and then listened for several more minutes.

Our OB explained to us that she heard an irregularity in Baby G's heartbeat. She told us that it sounded as though his heart was skipping a beat every few beats and told us that she was going to refer us to a perinatologist to determine if anything was wrong with Baby G's heart.

Hearing that something could be wrong with our baby was incredibly difficult, even though the doctor explained to us that it could be nothing. For now, we are focused on waiting; tomorrow we will be in contact with the perinatologist's office and will be making an appointment to have an ultrasound done of Baby G's heart and to talk with a high-risk doctor.

Jonathan has been incredible this afternoon and evening. He has been strong and continues to encourage me to lean on God for our strength in this situation. I don't know what I would do without him.

Beyond the challenges we faced at the doctor's appointment today, this last week has been fairly good for our pregnancy. I have been much more tired this week so I've been able to hold off on some of the cooking and cleaning that has been so necessary in past weeks. Also, this coming weekend is my second baby shower and I'm really looking forward to spending time with family and friends and celebrating Baby G!

Week 28 Stats for Baby G:
-Uterine measurement: 29cm
-Heart Rate: 150bpm
-Baby Bump: 44 inches

  1. Ohh, Alyssa - I am soo sorry to hear this! I will be praying diligently for 'Baby G'! If you need anything at all feel free to let me know. I know that we don't know eachother well, but as a fellow Mom and follower of Christ I am here by your side... Keep your chin up and remember God has a plan for you and Baby G.
